In terms of cricket experience, the team at Durant Cricket have plenty of that thanks to their own playing experience and the hundreds of clubs they visit on a regular basis.

Time and again when they visit clubs they are struck by the realization that without volunteers giving up their time and energy, recreational cricket would really struggle to keep going.

So often, the person (or people) responsible for looking after the pitch and grounds at your local club is an ‘unsung hero’. Durant Cricket are committed to doing everything they can to support and reward these people, including sponsoring awards that recognize their contributions.

“We support quite a few things, with Cricket World, looking at the groundcare section you have some groundcare heroes there,” Cristian Durant, company founder, explained.

The response to Cricket World’s first season of inviting nominations for club and ground heroes was incredible, which pleased Durant greatly.

“It’s great to see so many clubs writing in and giving good stories about the guys that help out on the grounds – there are some really passionate people who don’t get, or probably don’t want, as much exposure as they should do.

“Without those guys there really wouldn’t be any cricket – coaches running sessions is great but the guy that’s down there on a Monday morning brushing the wicket off and getting it ready for juniors on a Monday or Tuesday night is a real hero of the club.”

Their efforts are hugely important, and Durant hopes that they can inspire the next generation so they are ready to take over and keep club cricket thriving.

“From a personal point of view, what we do without those guys when they get a bit older and decide not to do it I’m not sure.

“It really is something we should look to encourage and give them a lot of credit for what they do.

“We keep talking about dropout rates in cricket but the area of grounds is really something that has to be looked at.”

As most of us seem to have less and less free time on our hands, Durant feels those that are working hard for their clubs deserve special praise.

“People have less time these days admittedly. It does take time, you can’t buy that – you need somebody that is down there on a Monday and Tuesday morning tidying up the ground.

“We all take that person for granted and don’t realize the amount of time and effort they put in.

“I think it’s important we say thank you, they aren’t the kid of people that want their name up in lights, just an appreciation of what they do goes a long way.”

Durant Cricket has become synonymous with cricket ground equipment and this is their speciality.

Individual products are always available but packages for clubs are also available to offer value for money.

No club could play without pitch covers and sightscreens – rain would soon ruin playing surfaces without covers, with the result that fixtures would be cancelled and revenues lost.

Similarly, there won’t be many – if any – batsmen who would volunteer to take strike without a sightscreen. For clubs, it is essential that sightscreens are robust and easy to move into position between overs as well as before and after games.

While not the most essential piece of kit, boundary rope is a useful addition to any ground. It always makes a good impression and Durant not only supply rope but a boundary rope winder for ease of storage.

You can purchase Durant’s mobile cricket covers as they are or if you choose, there are a number of accessories available – side sheets, bowler’s run-up sheets and a BowDry water remover.

The BowDry water remover is revolutionary. This drying machine is an effective and efficient tool for removing standing water from cricket grounds – or any other surface that is saturated.bow-dry

Boasting a water collection rate of 60 litres per minute, it is a lightweight piece of equipemnt, making it easy to use, transport and store.

Durant’s range of sightscreens comprises mesh roller sightscreens and a range of poly sightscreens in different sizes to suit clubs’ individual requirements.

In addition, Durant can offer packages that combine sightscreens and covers enabling clubs to make a saving by buying both at the same time.

Plus, clubs can buy the boundary rope winder and two sets of boundary rope as a package.

There will come a time when any cricket net will need its netting replacing. Net doesn’t last forever and nets are used throughout the season, leading to inevitable wear and tear.

Durant Cricket has the perfect solution with their custom replacement netting, part of their ground equipment accessory range of products.

You provide the precise requirements, and Durant will cut, trim and finish the net as you specify. We supply net of the highest quality and exact sizing allows for drape if required.

The net we provide is heavyweight 16z polypropylene netting and you can choose from white, black or green. It is a 50mm mesh with 1.8mm diameter strand and we sell by the square metre.

An indoor netting service is also available and we can fit netting to existing trackway.

If you have a mobile cricket cage, we can also fit netting replacement netting to these as well.

Other netting options Durant have available are ball stop netting, throw-down or fielding practice nets and anti-vermin skirts for cricket nets.

Ball stop netting prevents balls from going missing, from those travelling along the ground headed for undergrowth or ditches, and those in the air that might be threatening gardens, fields and parked cars.

The throw-down/fielding practice net keeps balls close to players during fielding practice and stops disruption of other teams and drills. The net consists of four wooden poles, guy ropes, runners and pegs and one piece of 16z netting measuring 20m by 3.15m.

Anti-vermin skirts are attached to existing nets. They are 5000mm high, can be provided in black or green and protect against vermin which can attack the bottom of cricket nets. The skirts are supplied as a DIY attachment.

2016 will be Durant Cricket’s seventh year of involvement with NatWest Cricket Force, offering products at a discounted rate to those taking part.

What is NatWest Cricket Force?

NatWest Cricket Force – run by the England & Wales Cricket Board and NatWest – is a nationwide initiative aimed at clubs and the rejuvenation of club cricket facilities.

Held every Spring, its goal is to bring clubs and communities together and ensure clubs are ready for the start of the season.

While club members, volunteers and administrators play a leading role, star players get involved as well, whatever the weather. It is perhaps the only time of year you will see former and current England captains helping out building a pavilion, mending a fence or painting a sightscreen!

How do Durant Cricket get involved?

For Durant Cricket, the values of Cricket Force – creating a sustainable future for clubs in the UK – align very closely with their own.

“We’ve been involved with NatWest Cricket Force for six years now, and we offer a range of our products at a discounted rate to Cricket Force members,” explains company founder Cristian Durant.

“All the prices are published on the website are very clear about the discounts we give to Cricket Force clubs and we try to keep them updated, through the cricket force database, of special offers and things we have going on,” he adds.

And so far, so good, for both Durant and the clubs taking advantage of the offer.

“It’s worked very well for us.

“What you find is that organised clubs do look to get involved with it,” Durant confirms.

Showcase clubs

The ECB pick a handful of clubs that they showcase every year when Cricket Force comes around and these are the ones to which leading players will show up.

Durant says that getting involved on these big days with showcase clubs is a very worthwhile experience.

“We’ve always been involved on the showcase days, going round to the clubs and providing them with help and support and we’re very pleased to be involved with it.

“It’s a grass roots thing at the end of the day and that’s where we are, so that’s what we want to do.”

A cricket ground without boundary rope would be a very strange thing indeed and it is one more essential piece of equipment that every club needs.

Every cricketer will identify with the sight of the ball bobbling (or sailing) over the rope to mark a four or six being scored, their reaction depending on whether they are batting or fielding at the time.

Durant Cricket now provide high quality cricket boundary rope as part of their extensive range of ground equipment accessories available to clubs.

Two 220 metre coils will go around a standard cricket pitch and the rope is available in three sizes: 24mm, 28mm and 32mm.

The rope itself is made from polypropylene and is a plaited eight strand construction with PVC covered eyes.

In the winter, when no boundaries will be scored, the boundary rope should ideally be stored and Durant Cricket offer a boundary rope winder as an ideal solution for storing your rope neatly throughout the season as well as during the colder months.

It also means the rope can be kept away from the cold weather so it is ready to use when things get warmer.

The boundary rope winder is designed to hold up to two 220m coil ropes.

Design features

Built with quality at the forefront, the box section cage is designed and manufactured from a rectangular box section with a hot dip galvanised finish.

Included is a pulling bar – making the cage easy to move – and a 10-year steel guarantee is provided as standard. The pulling bar ensures the cage can be easily pulled into position by one person and a recent redesign makes it even easier to install than previously. There are no complicated installation processes to follow.

Four or six swivel puncture-proof foam-fill wheels and two fixed wheels are provided which allow easy movement when combined with the pull bar.

A piece of black knotted 2.5mm net is also included, meaning the package provides for your club’s complete net requirements.

Options

The Pro Mobile cricket cage comes in two sizes, giving more choice and flexibility depending on your requirements.

Options are 7.12m long by 3m high by 3.66m wide or 10.66m long by 3m high by 3.66m wide.

But what if the Pro Mobile cricket cage isn’t quite what you need? Then the Club Mobile cricket net should be just what you need.

It’s a budget option ready for club use, measuring 7.12m or 10.66m long but it is narrower than and not quite as high as the Pro Mobile cage.

We redesigned our Mobile Cricket Cover in 2015, adding more protection by covering more of the bowlers’ run-ups in addition to the square so the covers now measure 24 metres in total.

These domed shape cricket covers are becoming a common sight on cricket grounds throughout the country – from village cricket grounds to Test and international cricket stadiums.

An important benefit of the cover is its ease of manoeuvrability. It can be pushed on and off of the square by one person, saving time and effort and keeping the square as dry as possible.

This time saving could well be the difference between getting a game back on later on and even getting a game played to a finish.

Our covers are manufactured to order, comprising three lightweight units which are easy to put together so they are ready to use very quickly.

mobile-cover-side-view

How are the covers made?

The covers come in two parts, the chassis and the cover tops. The chassis consists of 2mm folded steel and an arch support system is created from 25mm tubing. This is galvanised to prevent rust. Ridge poles strengthen the structure and give more protection from the elements. Plastic moulded bungee fixings offer more protection from the threat of rust.

The cover tops are made from 610 gsm heavyweight material with a welded flap for joining the two units. They can be supplied in green, white and blue with a sponsor’s logo area available if required. If you want another colour, please ask!

What else is included?

Your set of covers comes with 75 metres of tricoflex hose and other spare parts and extra hoses are available from stock. Optional extras to give even more protection such as bowlers’ run-up sheets and wicket protection are also available.

A 10-year steel guarantee comes as standard and the tyres are foam-filled to prevent against punctures.
