As part of our recent visits to clubs that have had new facilities from us this season, we headed to Peterborough Town Cricket Club where we recently installed a long awaited and much needed electronic scoreboard.

In this video club Chairman Brian Howard speaks about what it means to the club and how it completes the facilities the club already has.

Q: How did you first hear about Durant Cricket?

We’ve known Cristian from Durant Cricket for some time, way back he used to play here and and we’ve always kept in touch through the local cricket community.

 Q: What were the projects?

We’ve wanted to upgrade our scoring facilities here for some time, and a new electronic scoreboard was always an ambition for the club.

Q: When did the club begin speaking about it?

This project has been on the cards for years, however much like other clubs we needed to prioritise other facilities before we could focus on the new scoreboard.

Q: How did you fund the project?

It was a combination of small grant funding which we applied for and received from Cricket East, sponsors contributed and our sports club also helped with the necessary funds.

Q: How does the installation of the new scoreboard benefit the club?

First of all it looks great and is highly visible from the square in all light conditions, making it easy for the umpires and players to see the score which is great.

Our old scoreboard used the old cord pull system, which was fine while it lasted, however as our club plays Premier League cricket as it’s top level on a Saturday, we felt that having an electronic scoreboard was a must for us as our facilities should reflect the standard of cricket we play.

Q: How satisfied are you with the finished job?

We’re delighted with the work from start to finish from Durant Cricket.

Q: How professional were the Durant Cricket team?

Very good, from being on site when they said they were going to be there, to commissioning and signing off the job to us, their team were a pleasure to work with.

Q: Did they meet your clubs expectations?

Yes, everything we asked for was accommodated and the installations were completed in time and to budget.

Q: Would you recommend Durant Cricket to other cricket clubs?

Yes, we would recommend to Durant Cricket to any cricket club looking to improve their facilities.

We recently completed the installation of two electronic scoreboards, and the refurbishment of an indoor cricket facility at Billericay Cricket Club in Essex.

Once all the work was completed, we sat down with Michael Owens from the club and had a chat about the two projects to find out a little more about why they chose Durant Cricket, how they funded the projects and what having a new scoreboard and refurbished indoor facility means to the club.

Q: How did you first hear about Durant Cricket?

I did a Google search looking for cricket equipment suppliers, and found the Durant Cricket website on the first page, we made contact through email, from which we had a very quick response and we were able to arrange a site visit really quickly so we could discuss what we wanted to do.

Q: What were the projects?

We wanted to upgrade our two old manual cricket scoreboards with new electronic scoreboards and to completely refurbish our indoor cricket nets and floor.

Q: When had the club had begun speaking about it?

The scoreboards project had been part of an ongoing discussion between the club and the committee for 3-4 years, the indoor nets started to raise concerns a couple of years ago as the nets had large holes and gaps in places and the floor surface wasn’t specifically made for cricket.

Q: How did you fund the project?

We managed to successfully claim back funds that we’d overpaid in council tax the previous year, which meant the scoreboards were almost self funding as we’d budgeted in the coming year for these payments too.  The indoor cricket centre refurbishment was funded through an application the club had put into the Veolia Environmental Trust grant scheme.

Q: How does the installation of the new scoreboards benefit the club?

The new scoreboards deal with a number of ongoing issues we had with the old ones, such as regular maintenance, new digit sourcing and replacement and issues with the manual scorebox mechanisms.

In addition, professional and enthusiastic scorers now have the very latest technology to score the game more easily and effectively as the scoreboards now connect to the latest ECB Play Cricket Scorer App & Pro versions.

Also when we have to score the games ourselves players don’t have to be in the scoreboard as they can score the game from anywhere on the ground.

The indoor nets refurbishment has meant that we’ve been able to keep open a facility that had begun to become unsafe and not fit for use.

This facility is a vital income stream for the club, as we hire it to external coaches to use for their private coaching, and a large amount of members and community groups use the nets, so having it finished to a high standard and now being dedicated to cricket practice is a great benefit to everyone in the local area.

Q: How satisfied are you with the finished job?

Very happy, both scoreboards look very professional and they have a real high quality finish, and the indoor practice facilities have been completely transformed.

Q: How professional were the Durant Cricket team?

From initial contact through to finishing off the work and commissioning the scoreboards, the Durant Cricket staff were very good to work with at all times.

SHOWCASE ON OAKFIELD PARKONIANS CRICKET CLUB

We recently completed the installation of a fully enclosed two net lane practice facility at Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club (formerly Old Parkonians CC) complete with an optional gate to allow longer run ups for bowlers and with two different surfaces to for spin and seam bowling. We recently completed the installation of a fully enclosed two net lane practice facility at Oakfield Parkonians Cricket Club (formerly Old Parkonians CC) complete with an optional gate to allow longer run ups for bowlers and with two different surfaces to for spin and seam bowling.

Once everything was completed, we sat down with club chairman Nav Kalley to chat about the project and to find out a little more about why they chose Durant Cricket, how they funded the project and what having their new cricket net facility means to the club.

Q: How did you first hear about Durant Cricket?

We began to search online and found Durant Cricket, we decided to send an email in the first instance, after that everything was handled by telephone call.

Q: How quickly and was your enquiry handled?

The response from Durant Cricket was prompt and our enquiry was handled quickly and efficiently by their team.

Q: What was the project you wanted to undertake at your cricket club?

We had a really poor practice area in the past which players weren’t keen to use as it was often dangerous and didn’t allow our players to get the time in the nets they need. So we looked into having a bespoke net facility installed which would allow everyone at the club to have practice facilities they can use with confidence.

Q: When had the club had begun speaking about it?

We started talking about it back in March 2017

Q: How did you fund the project?

Durant Cricket helped us to fund the nets through their close relationship with 4Grants, who helped us with grant applications and found us the money to invest in these great new facilities for everyone at the Cricket Club.

Q: How does the completed project benefit the club?

You only have to come down to practice on a Friday night to see the impact these nets have had on our club.  Previously we couldn’t offer safe and reliable practice facilities to any of our cricketers, we can now offer junior and senior cricketers of all levels and abilities the opportunity to be coached, to practice and improve their game, all which will benefit our club both on and off the pitch.

Q: How satisfied are you with the finished job?

Very satisfied, all you have to do is to ask the players and coaches at the club and you’ll get positive feedback from everyone.

Q: How professional were the Durant Cricket team?

Very professional at all times and very easy to work with.

Q: Did they meet your clubs expectations?

Durant Cricket delivered exactly what we wanted, they advised us on what was best within our budget and then went about installing it to a high standard, our members are all very happy.  The installation was completed to budget and while we had a slight delay in completion due to poor weather, the installation was finished in time for the beginning of the season.

Q: Would you recommend Durant Cricket to other cricket clubs?

Yes certainly, these new facilities from Durant Cricket mean that our club now has a more professional outlook, which is great on a number of levels including how we continue to retain and recruit new cricketers to our cricket club.

Warwickshire County Cricket Club have erected a marquee at Edgbaston Cricket Ground for pre-season practice.

Here’s what head groundsman Gary Barwell had to say about our Run Bund product which solved the issue of water ingressing underneath the curtain and soaking the grass practice areas inside the marquee.

”This product is outstanding, we have put them in the marquee and had well over 100mm of rain in 2 weeks. No water has run through onto the run ups, which is what was happening before the Run Bund was there. A must for any ground.”

The Run Bund is primarily aimed at stopping water from getting onto a match wicket that you wish to keep dry, but this example shows that it is useful in any scenario where water movement from one area to another needs to be prevented.

FREE INSURANCE AVAILABLE ON ALL MOBILE CAGES AND SIGHT SCREENS

As the country’s leading specialist supplier of cricket ground equipment to cricket clubs, we’re always looking for ways to make the lives of those people who make decisions and run cricket club committee’s easier, which is why we’re introducing free insurance cover on all mobile batting cages and sight screens.

If required, the insurance cover will be provided under the ExtraCover Insurance scheme, which is run by Yorkshire based Brokers Marshall Wooldridge who have been managing the ExtraCover Insurance scheme for 4 decades.

The good news is that whether you order a new mobile cricket cage, a new sight screen or both, the insurance cover will come at no cost to your club and you’ll be safe in the knowledge that should anything happen you’ll have appropriate cover in place.

For more details on ExtraCover Insurance, call them free on 0800 289301 and ask for Mark, David or Helen, email extracover@marswool.com or visit their website.

Free insurance cover will be provided through to March 1st 2019 on all new Durant Cricket mobile cages and sight screen purchases.

An insurance claim will see the remedial work carried out by us as soon as possible, with the insurance payments processed at a later date in order to minimise the time clubs spend without access to their equipment. A typical scenario would see damage reported to us on a Monday after perhaps wind has blown over some sight screens on Sunday night. We would aim to be out to carry out remedial works that week* to ensure that there is no drop in the standard of facility or cricket on offer.

Call us on 01572 822013 and we’ll be happy to chat through what this means to your club and your purchase, or if you prefer email enquiries@durantcricket.co.uk

Harlow CC , who have a long history with scoreboards dating back to when Sam Deards invented the first mechanised scoreboard over 100 years ago, recently replaced their scoreboard with a new bespoke electronic scoreboard from Durant Cricket.

During the scoreboard installation, Alan Howick, President of Harlow CC , talked about  the new bespoke electronic scoreboard installation and the Harlow inventor -Sam Deards –

“The Scoreboard and the ‘revolving figures’ was probably invented around 1902 by Sam Deards who had a factory “Victoria Works” in Old Harlow. It was initially trialled at the Marigolds Sports Field by Harlow CC and was advertised in Wisden along with other products as well”

“Sam Deards played for Harlow, and also Moor Hall, another Harlow-based cricket club in the 19th Century and his scoreboard was widely used around the country and abroad”

“It’s fantastic to see the new electronic scoreboard here, at Harlow CC, which has been supplied and

installed by Durant Cricket, one of the leading cricket ground equipment companies in the UK. We have recently had a new pavilion built to an exceptional spec, with all the latest technological advancements incorporated and the new electronic scoreboard compliments the new facilities, as well as retaining its position in the ‘old pavilion’ as well.”

“I must make particular mention to the Whitby family who contributed towards the purchase of the new electronic scoreboard and we look forward to great summer of cricket here at Harlow CC where we have five XI’s playing on a Saturday, colts teams at various age groups and a large junior membership”

For further information, please contact Alan Howick at Harlow CC or Cristian Durant at Durant Cricket  cristian@durantcricket.co.uk www.durantcricket.co.uk
