PA Sports Cricket Bay

PA Sports Indoor Centre

PA Sports Academy & Indoor Centre

PA Sports, located in Bury, underwent a remarkable transformation with the installation of a state-of-the-art indoor centre. The facility, equipped with four spacious bays, has refined the area so that it is suitable for sporting activity.

Our installation team conducted a site visit to PA Sports, reflecting Durant Cricket’s commitment to thorough project planning and problem-solving. This pre-construction visit allowed us to engage with club/school members, anticipate challenges, and meticulously plan logistics, ensuring a seamless execution of the project. The visit was crucial in coordinating all aspects of the project, from surfacing to netting, to guarantee high-quality results.

This case study details the transformation of a former mill into a vibrant indoor cricket centre at PA Sports, showcasing the processes involved in repurposing the space into a modern facility. It highlights the potential of existing infrastructure and demonstrates how strategic planning can create a dynamic environment for cricket enthusiasts of all ages.

1. Foundations & Shock Padding

The choice to incorporate shock padding into the installation process stemmed from a profound acknowledgement of its proven efficacy in upholding performance standards, prioritising safety, and extending the overall lifespan of the facility.

The implementation of shock padding serves a dual purpose by not only alleviating the wear and tear on the facility but also acting as a crucial safeguard against the gradual deterioration of foundations. Beyond its structural benefits, shock padding introduces a vital cushioning effect to the playing surface. This impact-absorbing quality significantly diminishes the stress on players’ joins and muscles during gameplay, notably reducing the likelihood of injuries, especially those that commonly affect the knees and ankles.

2. Non-Turf Surfacing

Following the successful installation of shock padding, our subsequent focus transitioned to the implementation of a specialised non-turf surface designed specifically for indoor bowling. This tailored surface not only enhances the overall playing experience but also complements the shock pad’s protective features. Our team meticulously executed this phase, ensuring the seamless integration of the specialist indoor non-turf surface, further solidifying the foundation for an optimal cricketing environment at PA Sports.

3. Netting

The next phase of the project focused on installing the netting system at PA Sports, where spatial constraints led to the decision to use 2×2 nets in a 4-bay configuration. This setup aligns with the facility’s intended use, accommodating lane bookings and enhancing visitor experience with amenities like a bowling machine and video analysis.

Our installation process was meticulous and involved several crucial steps. We began by identifying and marking secure attachment points on the ceiling, ensuring they were properly anchored to support the netting’s weight. The netting was then suspended from these points, carefully stretched and fastened to ensure both durability and safety.

The netting was strategically positioned to create clear 3-meter-wide batting lanes and a designated bowling area. This arrangement maximised the use of available space and accommodated the facility’s lower ceilings, showcasing our ability to adapt to unique spatial challenges.

4. Markings, Final Touches and Completion

In alignment with our commitment to precision in every installation, our team proceeded with the delicate task of applying markings for each lane. Employing our specialised white paint, specifically crafted for quick drying resistance against gradual friction, ensuring durability against regular use.

Following additional meticulous cleaning, which involved thorough hoovering to eliminate any lingering debris or dust, and the final attention to any remaining scaffolding, the installation was successfully concluded. The achievement of completing this project stands as a testament to our team’s unwavering commitment. Despite our warehouse and officers being centrally located over 3 hours away, the dedication and efficiency of our team played a vital role in the timely and successful completion of the PA Sports facility.

5. Conclusions

The next phase of our project at the 22 Yard Cricket Centre involved the installation of our specialised non-turf surfaces and flooring. This crucial step entailed meticulous planning and precision execution to ensure that the surfaces met the correct dimensions and required specifications desired for the facility, optimising performance and durability.

Our team carefully laid out each section of our DuraWeave surface, ensuring a seamless and uniform finish across the entire playing area. The specialised flooring was chosen for its renowned reputation, in addition to the surfaces ability to withstand the rigors of intense cricketing activities, further providing players with the necessary traction and stability.
