Harlow CC Update Historic Ground
Harlow CC, who have a long history with scoreboards dating back to when Sam Deards invented the first mechanised scoreboard over 100 years ago, recently replaced their scoreboard with a new bespoke electronic scoreboard from Durant Cricket.
During the scoreboard installation, Alan Howick, President of Harlow CC, talked about the new bespoke electronic scoreboard installation and the Harlow inventor – Sam Deards.
Harlow CC's New Electronic Scoreboard
“The Scoreboard and the ‘revolving figures’ was probably invented around 1902 by Sam Deards who had a factory called Victoria Works in Old Harlow. It was initially trialled at the Marigolds Sports Field by Harlow CC and was advertised in Wisden along with other products as well”
“Sam Deards played for Harlow, and also Moor Hall, another Harlow-based cricket club in the 19th Century and his scoreboard was widely used around the country and abroad”
“It’s fantastic to see the new electronic scoreboard here, at Harlow CC, which has been supplied and installed by Durant Cricket, one of the leading cricket ground equipment companies in the UK. We have recently had a new pavilion built to an exceptional spec, with all the latest technological advancements incorporated and the new electronic scoreboard compliments the new facilities, as well as retaining its position in the ‘old pavilion’ as well.”
“I must make particular mention to the Whitby family who contributed towards the purchase of the new electronic scoreboard and we look forward to great summer of cricket here at Harlow CC where we have five XI’s playing on a Saturday, colts teams at various age groups and a large junior membership”
